S23 - Spring Debate - High School

High School Debate: Sunday, 10:00 am to 12:00 noon from February 12 to May 12
New England Academy's Saturday class brings competitive debate to high school students. This class is open to students of all levels of experience. It is especially encouraged for students familiar with the Orange County Debate League, but now attend high schools without debate programs.
This class will focus on one style of debate, modified high school parliamentary, and allow students to learn and practice debate, but also prepare them for the OCDL High School Tournaments.
This course focuses on improving all aspects of debate, where novice debaters can understand arguments and grow in confidence, and advanced debaters will learn more about frameworks, paradigms, counterplan burdens, and more. No experience is necessary.
Students will engage in multiple debates on different topics, preparing them for the OCDL High School Tournaments.
Events included in this class (all fees and judging requirements are included in the tuition for this class):
- OCDL Winter High School Tournament - Scheduled for April 29
Optional events not included (registration fees and judging fees will be determined once they are known):
- Stanford Spring Technical Tournament - Tentatively scheduled for February 11
Spring Break weeks will be April 2 and April 9 (no class on these dates).
This class is intended for students in grades 9 through 12, but is open to advanced 8th grade students. Please be aware that the High School Tournament is only open to students in grades 9 through 12.
COVID-19 - This class is offered as a PHYSICAL class. Masks are strongly recommended for all unvaccinated individuals.
